Product Overview

Delight is a very sweet and flavorful variety of dragon fruit with a light pink flesh interior. This variety is reliable and produces an abundance of 3/4 to 1 pound fruit. Delight was hybridizer Paul Thompson's favorite variety.

Self-Fertile- It can use its own pollen to set fruit.

Dragon fruit are a tropical fruiting cactus. Dragon fruit will not grow in cold climates, so make sure that the temperature is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent cold damage. Protect from hard freezes. Dragon fruit can be grown in containers or in the ground, planted in well-drained soil, full sun and trained to a heavy-duty trellis to support weight of this fast-growing plant. Avoid overplanting into very large containers, instead, gradually increase container size in relation to the plant size. We recommend a complete fertilizer during the growing season. Avoid overwatering in the winter to ensure the plant does not rot off.

All our dragon fruit plants have been greenhouse grown. When you receive your plants, please be patient in acclimating them to their new environment. This means slowly transitioning them from shade to full sun over a period of at least three weeks to avoid sun scald. This could take longer in extreme heat.

    Delight

Posted by Paul Clifford on Sep 26th 2023

I've purchased many varieties from CPN and all have done well. 'Delight' is listed here as self-fertile, but I have been unable to get it to set fruit with its own pollen, but it fruits well with other pollen. Its original hybridizer, Paul Thomson, also says in his book that Delight requires cross-pollination. So, I suggest updating the description.

    Dragon Fruit Delight

Both items were as shown on website. Even though the plants were shipped in an appropriate container and box quite a bit of soil was spilled from the pot as a result of the shipping process. I don't know if a "this side / end up" sticker on the box would help, but, the shipping company and it's personnel have no idea box needs to be oriented a certain way with out one.

Delight Dragon Fruit shipped to Norcal in October

Posted by Tuan Nguyen on Oct 25th 2021

I purchased two delights at the price of $5.99 each and was delivered on October 20, 2021. I made the order on October 17. The products were shipped to San Jose in a good carton box and nothing was damaged. I'm very pleased with the product received. Both plants were well rooted and seems that the small 3" pot was outgrown. Some of the roots were coming out of the bottom of the pot. The two plants received were 5" and 7" plants. They are healthy. I immediately re-potted the plants to bigger pots. I've been closely monitoring them and taking good care of them. For re-potting, I used the Foxfarm Happy Frog. I water the plants every 3 days. During the day time, I would take them out to the full sun from 8AM to 5PM. I would take them inside under the LED lights at night time. So far, I haven't seen any growth yet. Maybe it's taking its sweet time to adjust to the new environment. Hopefully I should see them growing soon. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase even though the shipping was almost equivalent cost to the plant. Thank you Cal Poly Pomona for the wonderful service and healthy plants.

    Beautiful well rooted dragon fruit

Posted by Paul Clifford on Jul 25th 2021

So far I have purchased about a dozen varieties of dragon fruit from Cal Poly Pomona Nursery. They were shipped promptly and very well packaged. On delivery in April they were well rooted small plants a few inches tall. It's now late July, about 3 months since receiving them, and they have grown to a height of two to three feet. Their growth has been vigorous and I have now planted them in large tubs with a trellis. I have been able to take cuttings that I have rooted. I'm eager to leave another review next year when they fruit to give my impressions of the fruit of each variety. I live in Northern California on the east shore of the San Francisco Bay, so I don't know how well some of the varieties will survive the cool winter, but I'm prepared to cover them if needed.

    Dragon Fruit Delight

Posted by Phil on May 18th 2021

I ordered 2 plants which arrived on schedule. Perhaps a stronger box would be useful. The package was seriously mashed and both plant containers were broken open and the contents well mixed. Remarkably, both plants were undamaged and appear to be very healthy. Got a good look at the roots since the potting soil was pretty much evenly distributed throughout the package.
