Product Overview

Purple Haze is a large sweet purple fleshed fruit with few seeds. The fruit weigh up to two pounds, and they have a pleasant grape, kiwi-like flavor.

Self-Sterile - It needs cross pollination to set fruit, usually done by hand pollination from another variety.

Dragon fruit are a tropical fruiting cactus. Dragon fruit will not grow in cold climates, so make sure that the temperature is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent cold damage. Protect from hard freezes. Dragon fruit can be grown in containers or in the ground, planted in well-drained soil, full sun and trained to a heavy-duty trellis to support weight of this fast-growing plant. Avoid overplanting into very large containers, instead, gradually increase container size in relation to the plant size. We recommend a complete fertilizer during the growing season. Avoid overwatering in the winter to ensure the plant does not rot off.

All our dragon fruit plants have been greenhouse grown. When you receive your plants, please be patient in acclimating them to their new environment. This means slowly transitioning them from shade to full sun over a period of at least three weeks to avoid sun scald. This could take longer in extreme heat.

    Purple Haze Dragonfruit

Posted by Megan Egelston on Feb 22nd 2021

This is my second time ordering a Purple Haze DF from CPPN, I’ve ordered many other varieties from them, as well. I live in Northern CA, so always choose to mail order the younger plants/rooted cuttings. This time in shipping the plastic plant shipping container was cracked and punctured the plant pretty significantly on the top segment. This was clearly something that happened between the time the plants were placed in the plastic trays and when they were put in the shipping box, because the shipping box itself was in perfect condition and I don’t think there’s anyway it could have happened without damaging the shipping box in transit, and left the other two trays in tact. Otherwise, two other plants in my order of 8 were received in questionable condition, which is not my typical experience with CPPN, they are typically fantastic quality plants and arrive clearly ready to continue thriving.

NOTE that we do not have a Phytosanitary Certificate that is needed for plants to be shipped or taken outside of California.
